Formed and led by the vocals talents of Kyle Durfey in 2006, Pianos Become the Teeth soon became part of the “The Wave”, the era’s new generation of post-hardcore bands including Touche Amore, La Dispute, and Defeater. Released on Doomed by Dawn Records, the group’s debut record was the 2008 EP “Saltwater”. The following year Pianos Become the Teeth contributed the track “Creatures of Habit” to a split EP with Ezra Joyce, highlighting the band’s darker influences. Later in 2009 the band released their debut full-length album “Old Pride” on Blackjaw Records, however by October 2009 Pianos Become the Teeth had inked a deal with Topshelf Recordings, who subsequently reissued their debut. The re-release, complete with wider promotion and distribution, showcased the group’s refined post-rock influences and earned widespread critical acclaim.
Following a successful U.S. tour alongside Touche Amore and Lemuria, Pianos Become the Teeth issued a self-titled split EP with the group, “The Saddest Landscape”. The band’s subsequent release, the full-length “The Lack Long After”, adopted darker, heavier themes than its predecessor and was the last to include screamed vocals. Following the November 2011 release, Pianos Become the Teeth embarked on a U.S. tour with Touche Amore and Seahaven. Three years later, after signing with Epitaph Records, the band’s third full-length album “Keep You” earned its worldwide release. Led by the single “Repine”, the record showcases the group’s more melodic influences however maintains the dark, brooding lyrics Pianos Become the Teeth have become known for.
