Tyrone Wells (born in Spokane, Washington, U.S.) is an American folk-pop singer-songwriter and musician who began his musical journey singing in the Christian rock band Sinai in 1994.
Raised on a solid diet of Christian and gospel music, it wasn’t until his sisters introduced Wells to the likes of Stevie Wonder and James Taylor that he began to take his musical interests seriously. After moving south, away from Washington to Hope International University in Southern California, Wells began writing his own songs and joined the Christian rock band, Sinai. Wells would release two LPs with the band before changing the moniker to Skylark and signing with Word Records. In 1998 Skypark issued their Dove Award-nominated album “Am I Pretty?”, before Tyrone Wells went solo and began playing shows in Orange County, California.
In 2001 Wells issued his self-titled debut solo album on True American Records. Whilst failing to significantly raise Wells’ profile, the album proved an early showcase of the singer’s intimate songwriting. The full-length “Snapshot” followed in 2003, as well as the live album “Close: Live at McClain’s” in 2005, and “Hold On” in 2006. “Hold On” subsequently earned a re-release in 2007 as Wells signed with the major-label Universal Records in late 2006. Working with songwriters and producers Martin Terefe and Iain Archer, Wells’ second major label album “Remain” was released in 2009 and rose to No. 17 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Chart.
The record proved to be the singer-songwriter’s last on Universal, after which he signed with Position Music, who issued his sixth studio album “Metal and Wood” in 2010. 2012 marked a busy year for Wells with the release of a pair of albums “Where We Meet” and “This Love”, along with the EP “Beautiful World”. Once again released on Position Music in 2013, the singer’s seasonal themed, “The Christmas Album”, was followed by “Roll With It” in 2015.
